The upcoming long Diwali weekend is the perfect opportunity to take some time off for yourself. The festivities are bound of kick off in full swing, and there’s no better time to spend with family. But Mumbai never sits still – and if you’re keen on stepping out for a bit, there’s a few great events lined up for the weekend.

When you’re not digging into sweet Diwali delicacies or celebrating with loved ones, here’s five things you can do around the city to make the most of your days off.

 

1. Groove at a Diwali Bash ft. DJ Bobby

One of Mumbai’s hottest venues for music is hosting an entertaining evening of dance featuring DJ Bobby. Bring your friends and tap your feet to popular Bollywood music this Saturday night to kick off the long weekend.

 

2. Attend a Poetry and Storytelling Open Mic

When: Sunday, October 23 to Sunday, October 30.

Where: Title Waves, Bandra

If you’re looking for an audience for your poem, have an interesting memory to share or simply want to listen, this is the perfect event to attend. Hosted by The Mental Talkies, it provides a stage to writers and poets who have a story to tell.

 

3. Catch a Late Night Comedy Show

When: Friday, 21 October to Sunday, 27 November

That Comedy Club has rolled out a series that features six comedians every weekend. “May or may not be headlined by very famous comedian”, their cryptic poster reads. The venue is India’s longest-running comedy club, and is sure to put together a hilarious show to blow off some steam amid the festivities.

 

4. Celebrate Oktoberfest

When: Friday, October 21 (5 pm onwards) to Saturday, October 22 (12 noon onwards)

Grab some craft beer, devour mouth-watering food and enjoy live music over two days at this Oktoberfest event. Shannon and The Silent Riot will perform on the 21st, while The Trio Project and Bombay Bassment are scheduled for the 22nd.

 

5. Learn How to Make A Diwali-themed Canvas Painting

When: Saturday, October 22 (4:00 pm to 7:00 pm)
