Designer Vaishali Shadangule Dazzles Paris With Her Indian Weaves

Designer Vaishali Shadangule made her debut in Paris Haute Couture Week 2021. She is the founder of the eponymous label, Vaishali S. At the event, being one of eight designers, Shaldungule unveiled her collection ‘Shwas’ which means ‘Breath’ in Sanskrit. She did so in the company of fashion heavyweights including Dior, Balenciaga, and Jean-Paul Gaultier.

As a result, her selection by the Federation de la Haute Couture et de la Mode makes her the first-ever Indian female designer to display her collection at the event. She is just the second Indian designer to ever achieve this feat, after Rahul Mishra. Additionally, she was one of two foreign guest designers showcasing her collection.

The Collection – Shwas

Shaldungule’s Paris couture collection features a total of 20 – 25 outfits. Through her collection, she conveys the true skill and potential of Indian weaves. Incorporating everything from Karnataka’s Khunn and Maheshwar’s (a town in Madhya Pradesh) merino wool to Bengali weaves and other unique indigenous designs from all over the country. Her whole collection is thus a celebration of India’s diversity.

As per The Indian Express, The collection, dubbed “wearable art,” includes mostly deeper colors that are appropriate for the Autumn-Winter season. It incorporates elements of the designer’s hallmark methods. Including cording, engineering deconstruction, and texturing, as well as traditional weaves and processes with dramatic shapes.

In an Instagram photo she posted, Vaishali describes this opportunity as a”dream come true”. The designer believes that by making use of this chance, she will be able to show Indians what they are capable of while also supporting the ecosystem of talented karigars and hand-weavers. She also showed some of her creations in another post.

Her unrelenting dedication throughout a two-decade career has been a key factor in her enormous achievement. Finally, the fusion style of classic fabrics with a contemporary twist is intriguing. It will be fascinating to see what she has in store for us next!
